Towards Optimal Microarray Universal Reference Sample Designs: An In-Silico Optimization Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, the authors present an assessment of the reliability of microarray experiments as well as their cross-laboratory/platform reproducibility rise as the major need. A critical challenge concerns the design of optimal universal reference rna (urr) samples to maximize detectable spots in two-color/channel microarray experiments, decrease the variability of microarray data, and finally ease the comparison between heterogeneous microarray datasets. Toward this target, the authors present an in-silico (binary) optimization process the solutions of which present optimal urr sample designs. Setting a cut-off threshold value over which a gene is considered as detectably expressed enables the process. Experimental results are quite encouraging and the related discussion highlights the suitability and flexibility of the approach. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-3604-0.ch088

A RELIABILITY APPROACH TO COMPARE OPTIMAL SEISMIC DESIGNS OF MULTIPLE-TUNED-MASS-DAMPER
Passive systems are preferred tools for seismic control of buildings challenged by probabilistic nature of the input excitation. However, other types of uncertainty still exist in parameters of the control device even when optimally tuned. The present work concerns optimal design of multiple-tuned-mass-damper embedded on a shear building by a number of meta-heuristics. They include well-known g...
متن کاملOPTIMAL PERFORMANCE-BASED SEISMIC DESIGN OF COMPOSITE BUILDING FRAMES WITH RC COLUMNS AND STEEL BEAMS
Composite RCS building frames integrate reinforced concrete columns with structural steel beams to provide an efficient solution for the design and construction of earthquake-resisting structures. In this paper, an optimization framework is developed for performance-based seismic design of planar RCS moment resisting frames. The objective functions are defined as minimizing the construction cos...
متن کاملComparison of Microarray Designs for Class Comparison and Class Discovery
Motivation: Two-color microarray experiments in which an aliquot derived from a common RNA sample is placed on each array are called reference designs. Traditionally, microarray experiments have used reference designs, but designs without a reference have recently been proposed as alternatives. Results: We develop a statistical model that distinguishes the different levels of variation typicall...
متن کاملSome E-optimal Designs for cDNA Microarray Experiments
In this paper, optimal incomplete block designs were determined for cDNA microarray experiments, where arrays are blocks, block size is always two, and the number of blocks or arrays available is approximately equal to the number of samples. A new class of designs, the mixed designs, which are a mixture of reference and loop designs, have been identified and their optimality has been proven in ...
